Graeme Burfoot

Born in London, Graeme immigrated to Australia when he was nine. He finished his schooling in Western Australia attending Curtin University to study film, television and media design, graduating in 1982 with a BA in design with distinction. In 1984 he moved to Sydney and Filmgraphics Productions where he became a designer. Awards consistently followed for his work on numerous animation TVC’s and in 1986 he was made director of animation.

Graeme has been directing TV commercials, film and TV for over 20 years. His outstanding visual effects direction for Tooheys, ‘War of the Appliances’ and ‘Flies’ for Caltex have won visual effects, animation and direction awards around the world. He is an accomplished drama director, winning the Australian Film Institute Award for Best Short Film for “The Beneficiary” that he wrote and directed in 1997. “The Beneficiary” was invited into numerous festivals around the world.  It won at the Palm Springs Film Festival and was short-listed in the last 10 shorts for the 1999 Academy Awards. In 2002, he directed the three-part drama of Robert Drew’s award winning book ‘Shark Net’ for the ABC and BBC, earning him another AFI nomination. Graeme then earned a best director nomination at the Director’s Guild Awards for the Bryan Brown episode of “Two Twisted” episode for Channel Nine.

Be it action, visual effects, comedy or drama, Graeme’s diverse strengths show a subtlety and confidence in everything he does. He has won at Clio, Mobius, New York, Award, Asia Adfest, Gongs and London International.
